The objective of the Worldwide Extension Study (WWES), is to collect empirical data on the human and financial resources of agricultural extension and advisory systems worldwide. In-depth studies are carried out, which analyze pluralistic extension systems, including an assessment of the strategy and performance of the different extension service providers.
The methodological approach is through use of surveys and secondary sources. Surveys were sent directly to contacts in case study countries, through FAO representatives particularly in African countries, and IICA contacts in Latin America. The other source of information to support the study is found online through, for example, the ministries of agriculture, national agricultural research institutions, individual non-governmental organizations, and specific farmer based organizations
