The major objectives/activities of the project include research of knowledge management systems in India, which supports the development of the IKP Center for Advancement of Agricultural Practice (ICAAP) knowledge management portal, and capacity strengthening activities to then support the use of the portal by knowledge intermediaries in Indian agriculture.
The three key activities (research, portal development and capacity strengthening) of the project require different methodological approaches. In 2011, the research examined extension services in India, including the Agriclinics scheme, as well as examining farmers’ information needs in the pilot districts for the portal. These activities used household surveys to understand farmer experience in use of these services. The portal development was carried out in collaboration with the e-extension team of Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU). Capacity strengthening through workshops was the main approach to support knowledge intermediaries in 2011.
