The conference aimed to discuss practical initiatives required to increase agricultural productivity in Africa in a sustainable manner and to create opportunity for stakeholders to sit together and find common ground on ways to harmonize programs, tackle challenges and exploit opportunities that exist for increasing agricultural productivity in Africa.
Finalization of conference synopsis report and policy briefs is under way. Selected full papers will be developed as chapters of an edited book on “Courting sustainable agricultural productivity growth in Africa”.
IFPRI, in conjunction with the African Union Commission (AUC), the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA), the Forum for Agricultural Research in Africa (FARA), FAO, and UNDP, conducted an international conference entitled “Increasing Agricultural Productivity and Enhancing Food Security in Africa: New Challenges and Opportunities”, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, November 1-3, 2011. Approximately 300 participants attended the event.
